Changing your goal, rate and diet style in MacroDiet is partly live and partly coming: the profile page edits goal, target weight, weight and activity level today, while diet style, protein preference, calorie floor and rate are onboarding choices without a settings screen yet — and saving the profile does not recompute your targets in the current build. This guide shows what is editable, what each setting would do to the numbers, and how to preview them now. MacroDiet is live at macrodiet.fit and evolving; screens change as features ship, and anything marked "coming" below is not in the app yet.

What it does

More → Profile shows your email and a form: Unit System (metric / imperial), Birthdate, Sex, Height (cm), Weight (kg), Goal (lose / maintain / gain), Target (kg) and Activity Level (Sedentary, Lightly Active, Moderately Active, Very Active, Extra Active). Save Changes writes the fields and confirms with "Profile updated!".

What it does not do yet: re-run the v2 algorithm. Your daily calorie, protein, fat and carb targets stay as onboarding set them until the coming check-in (or a coming recompute-on-save) changes them. The preferences screen in onboarding says "All preferences can be changed anytime"; the screen that would let you is coming. The formula itself is public and runs in our macro calculator, so previewing a change is one form away.

Step by step

  1. Open More → Profile.
  2. Edit the field. Weight if it has moved; Goal and Target when the aim changes; Activity Level if your week has changed shape. (The profile's five-level activity list is the calculators' scale, which maps onto onboarding's two questions: sedentary and lightly active → sedentary movement; moderately → moderate; very and extra → very active; with 0, 1–3, 4–6, 7+ and 7+ sessions respectively.)
  3. Save Changes. The values are stored.
  4. Preview the new targets. Enter the same details in the macro calculator (or the calorie deficit calculator for a rate change) and read the target and split. This is what the app will set once recompute-on-save ships.
  5. Log against the number you decide on. The Food Log pills compare the day to the profile targets, so until those are recomputed, keep your own figure in mind or leave the targets as they were and treat the calculator's output as the reference.

What the numbers mean

All from the v2 constants, for the 85 kg example (TDEE 2,837).

SettingOptionsWhat the formula sets (85 kg example)
Goallose / maintain / gainmaintain = 2,837; lose subtracts the rate deficit; gain adds it
Rate (per week, % of body weight)0.3 / 0.5 / 0.750.255 / 0.425 / 0.6375 kg281 / 468 / 701 kcal a day
Cap35% of TDEEnever more than 993 kcal off maintenance here; larger requests are clamped
Calorie floor (lose only)standard / lowermen 1,500 / 1,200; women 1,200 / 1,000; a target below the floor is raised to it
Protein preferencelow / moderate / high / extra high1.2 / 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 g/kg102 / 136 / 170 / 204 g, +17 g (0.2 g/kg) when losing; capped at 50% of calories
Diet stylebalanced / low-fat / low-carbfat = 35 / 20 / 50% of calories left after protein, then carbs fill the rest; fat never below max(0.6 g/kg, 20% of calories) = 53 g here
Diet styleketocarbs fixed at 30 g, fat takes everything after protein and carbs

Worked: lose, moderate, balanced, moderate protein → 2,369 kcal · 153 P · 68 F · 286 C. Switch only the diet style to low-carb → fat (2,369 − 612) × 0.5 / 9 ≈ 98 g, carbs (2,369 − 612 − 882) / 4 ≈ 219 g. Switch to keto → carbs 30 g, fat (2,369 − 612 − 120) / 9 ≈ 182 g. Switch only the rate to aggressive → deficit 701, target 2,136, protein unchanged, fat ≈ 59 g, carbs ≈ 195 g. The macro splits compared and protein per kg pieces cover the reasoning behind those constants.

In plain terms: rate moves calories; protein preference and body weight move protein; diet style decides how the remainder is split between fat and carbs; the cap and floor are guard-rails that override all of it.

Gotchas

  • Saving the profile does not change the targets yet. This is the single most important line on this page. Recompute-on-save is coming.
  • Diet style, protein preference, floor and rate have no edit screen after onboarding yet. The settings screen is coming; the calculator is the preview.
  • The floors are minimums the formula enforces, not suggestions. With "lose" selected, a target that comes out below the floor is raised to it and the app records a warning (why calculators stop at 1,200).
  • The lower floor is the advanced option for a reason. Onboarding pairs it with a fatigue-and-sustainability warning; it does not change the 35% cap.
  • Activity level on the profile is the five-level scale, not onboarding's two questions. Pick the row whose description matches; the mapping above shows what it becomes.
  • Target weight has no effect on the daily numbers. It is a goal marker for the coming Strategy screen; the rate sets the pace, not the distance.

The short version

Goal, target weight, weight and activity level are editable on the profile page today; diet style, protein preference, floor and rate are onboarding choices until their settings screen ships; and saving the profile stores the values without recomputing targets for now. The formula is fixed and public — rate sets the deficit, protein tier sets protein, diet style splits the rest, cap and floors guard it — so preview any change in the macro calculator and log against the nutrition number you decide on. Educational overview only — not medical advice.
