Zyra Workouts is in development and not yet on the App Store; screens may change before release.
Zyra Workouts is a workout logger built to be fast in the gym and honest afterwards: sets go in through a keypad, the dashboard is computed from what you actually logged, and every byte stays on your phone unless you choose to back it up. This guide walks the app as it exists today — the tabs, the first session, and the handful of settings that shape everything else.
What it does
The app has four tabs and one big button.
| Tab | What lives there |
|---|---|
| Home | The dashboard — cards for workouts, muscle groups, consistency and body metrics, all built from your history |
| Workout | Start or resume a session, the active program, your programs, the Workout Library templates, history |
| Levels | Average weekly working sets per muscle group over 4, 8 or 12 weeks, on a body map |
| More | Account, appearance, units, rest-timer defaults, gym profiles, Smart Progression, export, Health, privacy |
| "+" (centre) | Start a workout · log a body weight · log a period entry |
On a fresh install the Home tab shows a welcome card — "Your dashboard comes to life after your first workout" — with Start First Workout and Import from Apple Health. Nothing on the dashboard is sample data.
Two roadmap decisions are worth knowing up front: the first version is iOS only (Android later), and the app is offline first — logging, programs and progression all run on the device. An optional Zyra account adds backup and restore, not features.
Step by step
- Pick your units. More → Units → kg or lb. The default is kg. The app stores kilograms whatever you pick, so switching later does not rewrite history.
- Set the rest defaults. More → Workout → Default rest: 1m, 1.5m, 2m or 3m (the default is 90 s). "Auto-start rest timer" is on by default; ticking a working set starts the countdown. Each exercise also carries its own default rest, and you can override it per exercise later.
- Tell it about your bar and plates. More → Gym profiles. The default profile is "My Gym": a 20 kg bar and every plate size from 1.25 to 20 kg. The plate calculator and Smart Progression both read this, so a home gym with no 1.25 kg plates should say so — see setting up your gym profile.
- Start a session. Workout tab → "Start Workout →" for freestyle, or tap a library template. Add exercises from the picker (61 built-in exercises, searchable, plus a Custom tab), then tap the weight and reps cells to log — the keypad is covered in logging a set.
- Finish it. "Complete Workout" at the bottom of the session saves it, shows a summary you can share, and the dashboard fills in. Sets you never ticked are not saved.
- Optional: a program. Workout tab → My Programs → New Program → Smart Generation answers six questions and writes a periodized six-cycle program; Build From Scratch gives you the editor. Sessions started from a program day are the ones Smart Progression can prefill.
What the numbers mean
Two figures appear on day one and are easy to misread.
- Volume on the history rows is
weight × full repssummed over working sets — warm-ups are excluded, partial reps do not add volume. - PRs on a session are counted per set: a working set whose estimated one-rep max (the e1RM formula) beats that exercise's previous best in your history. A brand-new exercise cannot produce a PR on its first session because there is no prior best to beat.
Gotchas
- Leaving a session open. After six hours unfinished, the Workout tab shows an "Unfinished workout" banner with Resume and Discard. Nothing is lost, but the dashboard ignores it until you finish or discard.
- Apple Health is read-only. Health Integrations shows activity and heart data alongside the log; the app never writes to Health.
- No ads, no trackers, no analytics SDKs. A stated constraint of the store listing, not a setting.
- Period tracking is on by default (More → Privacy), cycle-phase overlays off. Both are toggles.
- Screens may change. Labels quoted here are the current pre-release ones.
The short version
Install, choose kg or lb, set a default rest, tell the app which plates your gym has, and tap "Start Workout →". Log sets with the keypad, tap "Complete Workout", and the dashboard and Levels tab start filling in from your own training data. Everything works offline; an account is only for backup. Zyra Workouts is a training log, and this page describes one of its features as built today. Educational overview only — not medical advice.
