The weekly check-in in MacroDiet is coming, not live: the Strategy tab in the bottom bar is a placeholder for it, and the post-sign-up timeline names a first check-in "next Monday" ahead of the feature. This guide describes the design as planned so you know what the tab will do, and says plainly what to do in the meantime. MacroDiet is live at macrodiet.fit and evolving; screens change as features ship, and anything marked "coming" below is not in the app yet.
What it does
As designed, the check-in is a once-a-week review that turns the week's food logs and weigh-ins into a proposed update to your targets — the job a coach would do on a Monday. It has two parts:
- The Strategy screen (the reserved tab). A circular countdown showing days until the next check-in, which becomes a "Check in — it's time" button when the window opens; an *In Progress* card with this week's program as a seven-column grid (a calorie bubble per day and coloured tiles for protein, fat and carbs); a *Goal* card with target weight and rate in kg per week and percent; and a goal history.
- The check-in wizard, four modules behind an overview screen: *Introduction* (first time only), *Partial Logging*, *Weigh-In*, and *Program Update*.
None of these screens exists in the app yet. The dashboard's Expenditure and Weight Trend pages already show the raw material the check-in will read (expenditure, weight trend).
Step by step
How a check-in will run, per the design.
- Overview. A list of the four modules with ticks for completed ones and a button to the current step.
- Introduction (first check-in only). One screen explaining that weight and nutrition data are used to improve the program.
- Partial Logging. A bar chart of the last seven days' logged calories, Monday to Sunday. Days that look low are pre-highlighted; tap any day to mark it incomplete or complete. Marked days are excluded from the intake average and the expenditure calculation. The app's earlier "fasting day" idea stays separate: a fasting day is a real zero, kept as a data point; a partial-logging day is missing data, dropped.
- Weigh-In. "Would you like to enter today's scale weight?" Yes opens a ruler in 0.1 kg steps; No shows your last weigh-in date and a reminder to weigh weekly.
- Program Update. The new week's macro grid, and a *What changed* list: calories up or down by N kcal, protein / fat / carbs up or down by N g. Two buttons: Accept Program Changes (writes the new targets to your profile) or Decline and Silence (keeps the current ones and dismisses this week's update).
What the numbers mean
The deltas on the final screen will be the difference between the new proposal and the current program. The proposal follows the same arithmetic the current formula uses, fed by a corrected expenditure instead of the onboarding one. Illustrating with the running example (85 kg, moderate rate, balanced, moderate protein) — synthetic numbers, since the engine is not live:
| Line | This week | Proposed | Shown as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expenditure estimate | 2,837 | 2,950 (intake vs weight change said the formula was low) | — |
| Calories | 2,369 | 2,482 (2,950 − 468) | "Calories will increase by 113 kcal for next week" |
| Protein | 153 g | 153 g (weight-based, unchanged) | "Protein will stay the same" |
| Fat | 68 g | 73 g (35% of the larger remainder ÷ 9) | "Fat will increase by 5 g" |
| Carbs | 286 g | 301 g (the rest ÷ 4) | "Carbs will increase by 15 g" |
The reason weekly rather than daily is the noise argument from the weight-trend guide: a day's reading cannot tell a real change from water, seven can begin to. The daily versus weekly deficit piece covers why the target is an average.
In plain terms: the check-in is the step where "expenditure minus intake should match the weight change" is turned into a new number, once a week, with you approving it.
Gotchas
- The Strategy tab does nothing today. Tapping it stays where you are. That is expected until the feature ships.
- No Monday check-in arrives in the current build, whatever the First 30 Days page says. Targets change only when you edit them (how).
- Marking days as partial will protect the estimate, not fix the week. An excluded day carries no information; three excluded days in a week leave too little to update on, and the design holds the estimate instead.
- Declining is a real option in the design. A proposed cut is not a verdict; keeping the current numbers for another week is a legitimate nutrition choice.
- The manual equivalent works now: log fully, weigh daily, read the Expenditure bars against the line and the weight direction after two to three weeks, and adjust on the profile page or with the calorie deficit calculator.
The short version
MacroDiet's weekly check-in is a planned feature: a Strategy tab with a countdown, this week's grid and your goal, and a four-module wizard that excludes incompletely logged days, takes a weigh-in, and proposes next week's targets with the change in kcal and grams for you to accept or decline. It is coming; nothing on the tab is live today, and until then the same review is done by hand from the expenditure and weight pages. Educational overview only — not medical advice.
